- YEAR OF MANUFACTURE LICENSE PLATE USE -- Registration allowed:
VEHICLE QUALIFYING AGE: 30 years or older up to 1974. The last year of available embossed plates is 1974. Also, plates manufactured between 1969 and 1973 did not have the year embossed on them, therefore cannot be used in the YOM program.
VEHICLE TYPES QUALIFYING FOR YOM: Passenger cars, motorcycles, and trucks with a registered gross weight less than 26,000 lbs. Trailers are not included in the program
MUST TYPES MATCH: Yes, except that a passenger car plate can be used on a truck, but a truck plate cannot be used on a car.
SINGLE/PAIR REQUIRED: The plates were originally issued in pairs, but only one plate must be displayed when registering in the YOM program. However, the second YOM plate of the same number cannot be used by another vehicle owner. The plate must be displayed on the rear of the vehicle.
REPAINTED PLATES ALLOWED: Yes
MUST NUMBER CLEAR: Yes. The applicant must provide a color copy of the plate they wish to use to ensure that it is in serviceable condition as originally manufactured. The year of manufacture must be embossed on the plate. It cannot duplicate another YOM plate, but it can duplicate a current "regular" plate. Contact the Idaho Transportation Dept/Special Plates at 208-334-8649 to see if the number is clear for registration.
NOTES: In addition to "regular" registration fees, there is a special program fee of $25.00 initially and an additional $15.00 due at the time of annual renewal. The Year of Manufacture application form and instructions for applying for YOM plates can be downloaded at : http://itd.idaho.gov/dmv/vehicleservices/vsspecl.pdf
