About Blemished Repainted Plates
We pulled hundreds of plates in various stages of decay from inventory when we began repainting plates to test different repair and finishing processes. By doing so, we determined what defects we consider to be not possible or cost-effective to restore.
We drastically improved all of them. Some came out perfect, just as we hoped. Others didn't for various reasons. Some had deep rust pits, edge damage, or hard creases that we could improve but couldn't remove to our satisfaction, and the defects still show more than we like. Some had moderate paint defects or the lettering wasn't as crisp as we demand.
We call these plates "Blemished Repainted Plates" or "Blems". Blems are finished with the same high-quality paints as our show-quality restorations. While Blems don't meet collector's or show car owner's close inspection standards, they are perfectly acceptable for Texas Antique and Classic registration. Their appearance is fine for registering "driver" cars that are themselves not perfect and they look fine when viewed on a vehicle from a few feet away.
We are selling some of our later issue (1950's through 1960's) "Blems" at reduced prices - usually less or only slightly more than our repainting fee alone. We feel that Blems are a win-win situation for customers and us alike. Customers who don't require perfect plates get better ones at a reasonable price and we learned from testing various restoration processes.
We very familiar with the Texas Department of Transportation's antique and classic vehicle registration requirements and guarantee that they will accept our Blemished Repainted Plates just as easily as a perfect plate.
We significantly raised our standards for plates to repaint after our experiments ended, so we do not expect to have Blemished Repainted Plates once the current inventory is depleted.
You can buy Blemished Repainted Plates with confidence if they suit your purpose, since they carry the same 10-day money back guarantee as our normal Texas YOM plates.
